Reflections from FOC 2008

2008-07-12 @ 10:35 p.m.

As a senior now, I finally understand what it feels like to undergo the formal process of Googling the phrases "WKWSCIFOC 2008" and "CS FOC 08" and clicking the first freshies' blogs in eager anticipation of what everyone had to say about it.

but perhaps owing to my unfortunately inadequate 202 skills, I only successfully turned up seniors' blogs.

and to my silent disappointment, i read rather mellow entries and suppressed feelings of discontent and underappreciation on their part.

I suppose i sort of saw this coming, but i know that for me, as far as possible i always made sure that the seniors and fellow year 2s knew how grateful i was for their help everytime, and so i was truly rather taken aback when i discovered that it was my actions--indirectily-- that disappointed them the most.

well, right now, to those of you who may or may not have felt this way, regardless of the two, i would like to say my piece now:

WKWSCIFOC2008 is officially over.

and i know that the first thing i must do is to thank everyone who has helped us make this happen.

in particular, all of my characters--all 42 of you (indeed, i counted) :p--, my coordinators (the lovely programmers Chris Adeline & QQ--it's been brilliant working with you three, thanks so much (:--as well as Ahmad. Thank you again as well.), my route markers-- nessie, titus, K, and the rest of the main comm just for being there to help me--either as characters or as welfare or just running around with me, like Cheryl. (:

kudos definitely go to the seniors as well. They were the ones who pointed out all the things that I myself--in spite of my tedious and (self-perceived) detailed planning-- forgot: Zak (for calming me down when i was freaking out), ShiXiong (for believing in me), Chee Harn (especially--thank you for the vid), Sern Yong (for your ready assistance anywhere), Philip (for the lights and the access cards--thank you so so much i'd hv been doomed without you), Daphne (for your invaluable advice and assistance), Cheryl Quek (for helping me at NBS), Justin (for being so ready to help me with everything), Joanne and her sister Jocelyn (in spite of her being _________ :D), Sharon, Jessie and Cheryl Ong for being my route markers, for sitting there the entire night guiding people without complaining at all.

Last, but most certainly not least, thank you to my route ICs--Sheila, Amos, Wai Mun, Rushan, Zhi Hui, Meisee and Kristle--who have been working with me since around last year on this immense project. Thank you for enduring my endless stream of email-reminders flooding your inboxes, (both via phone and internet) for tirelessly editing, re-working, sourcing for logistics at the last minute, working around the schedule that i gave you guys, and for everything else that all of you have helped me with. Thank you for coming so far with me, I have had an enjoyable and fulfilling time working with all of you definitely.

and this is a special note to Kenneth (whom i'm pretty sure won't see this but nvm): I am very very very sorry that you got so badly injured on the route :/ i suppose that i should have taken much more rigorous safety precautions for everyone... although i'm glad we had that chat. (: it was great getting to know you! seeya around school =)

and to Alex: Apologies that the station offended you in that manner--please don't take any of it seriously. We seniors care about your safety more than anything else (even if it might not seem so), and i will disseminate it to the next programmer to look out for possibly-offending things to people.

ok i'm getting tired, i can feel it in my muscles, bones, fingers, legs and entire body, basically.

I guess i'm still hoping that the freshies had a memorable time at camp--that they can take away from it memories that they will cherish and be inspired by, that the friends they make at camp will be lasting ones, even if only four or five (or even one or two), that they have grown in character and endurance, and also that they will eventually come to love this awesome school of ours that we all know and adore (to the point of willingness to sign up as the Finding Nemo programmer in the Main Committee, hurhur.)

(:

righto, if i think of other things that i want to say i'll blog again.

back to the real world, ciao.
